South African Airlines flight 281 conducted a demonstration flight from from Perth, Australia to Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday 10th March 2011.
This flight is the first of several demonstration flights to be undertaken by the INSPIRE partners and brings together South African Airways, Airservices Australia and ATNS of South Africa to demonstrate the capability of air navigation services and airline fuel optimization initiatives to reduce aviation emissions in the Indian Ocean region.
The South African Airlines flight utilised clean power from the terminal building in Perth whilst preparing for the departure, and was provided with an unrestricted taxi and take-off. Following an uninterrupted climb to the preferred cruise level of 34000ft the flight utilised a User Preferred Route and ideal cruise altitude for the entire cruise phase. On arrival to Johannesburg the flight was provided with an unrestricted descent direct to final approach and the shortest taxi into the bay.
